 About Us

The Chico Rancheria Housing Corporation is the Tribally Designated Housing Entity and Community Based Development Organization of the Mechoopda Indian Tribe of Chico Rancheria, California.

Organizational Format

The Corporation was chartered under the Tribe’s first enacted law (Ordinance One) in December of 1993, as a non-profit Corporation “…to further community development activities for the benefit of tribal members, with a primary focus on the housing objectives of the Chico Mechoopda Indian Tribe of the Chico Rancheria.”

The Board of Directors are elected by the Tribal Council and are granted the authority necessary to carry out the functions for the Corporation in accordance with its purposes, attributes, powers, and duties established by the Charter (Tribal Ordinance One). Our Mission

The Chico Rancheria Housing Corporation's mission is to develop, implement, and administer projects and programs for the benefit of all tribal members of the Mechoopda Indian Tribe with a primary focus on the housing needs of low-income families.

Five Year Plan

During the next five years, local needs will be met through the development of a low-income rental program and increasing housing stock to accommodate the program, while tribal wide low-income housing needs will be met with individual family assistance programs for both local members and members within the remaining areas of the United States. The Goals and Objectives of our Five Year Plan (2009-2013) are listed below:

Goal 1: Increase the Tribe’s Low-Income Rental Housing Stock by at least 12 units at appropriate locations within the local area, which includes Butte, Tehama, and Glenn Counties of California.

 

Objective 1.1: Develop, through acquisition of existing properties or through acquisition of land and construction, 8 units of appropriate sized housing based on current needs for purposes of increasing the Tribe’s Low-Income Rental Housing Stock.  Such properties may include multifamily complexes, townhouses, condominiums, and/or other multi or single family units within the local area.

 

Objective 1.2: Develop, through acquisition of existing properties or through acquisition of land and construction, 4 units of housing to accommodate local seniors and disabled families. Such properties shall be included in the Tribe’s Low-Income Rental Housing Stock.

 

Goal 2: Provide Individual Family Housing Assistance to Low-Income Tribal Members.

 

Objective 2.1: Provide Homebuyer’s Assistance with down-payments for 12 families located within the areas of the United States.

 

Objective 2.2: Provide owner-occupied rehabilitation assistance to 12 families within the local area, which includes the California counties of Butte, Tehama, and Glenn.

 

Objective 2.3: Provide 20 Low-Income Students attending accredited universities, colleges, or trade schools with Tenant Based Rental Assistance located within the areas of the United States.

 

Objective 2.4: Provide necessary credit and housing counseling to low-income Tribal Members.

 

Objective 2.5: Develop agreements with other local welfare agencies, such as the Housing Authority of the County of Butte, the City of Chico, the Community Housing Improvement Program, and Tribal TANF in order to become a more effective funneling agency for Tribal Members that the Chico Rancheria Housing Corporation cannot immediately assist.

 

Objective 2.6: Provide families with Tenant Based Rental Assistance as necessary within the local area, which consists of the California counties of Butte, Tehama, and Glenn, contingent on availability of funds over the next 5 year period.

 

Objective 2.7: Provide families with Move-in Assistance, as necessary within the arease of the United States, contingent on availability of funds over the next 5 year period.

 

Objective 2.8: Provide elderly families located within the areas of the United States with Health & Safety Assistance.

 

Goal 3: Provide operational subsidy to the Housing Corporation’s Affordable Housing Program in order to maintain Tribal assets.

 

Objective 3.1: Provide training to lessees through community meetings and one-on-one family meetings on program attributes, requirements, and responsibilities.

 

Objective 3.2: Provide the necessary credit and household budget counseling to lessees in order for the lessees to qualify for Section 184 Loan Guarantees, enabling the Tribe to convey the units at an accelerated schedule.

 

Objective 3.3: Provide insurance coverage on Tribal assets and Housing Corporation equipment & furniture.
